Before becoming a marketing consultant I had been other things in my working life – a tomato picker, an olive sorter and a freelance writer to name a few. And for the majority of my life I had also been a very, very committed smoker. Starting in my teens, I continued smoking into my adult life, with the same passion and dedication I give most activities I undertake.
One day it dawned on me that if I carried on doing what I’d always done, I’d always be a smoker. To be something different, I’d have to do something different. So, one day I made a small change to my normal routine and didn’t buy a packet of cigarettes. Simple. Easy. Achievable. And from that one small change, much bigger change came and I turned into a non-smoker.
It was a major evolution which was achieved through a minor change in behaviour and approach. And this approach is relevant to your business. By making a small change in your marketing, much bigger evolution can follow. It doesn’t require you to rip up your marketing plans, just to look at one area which isn’t quite working and which could work harder. Maybe it’s your event strategy or your Facebook activity, your pricing or your product range. Whatever it is, identifying that one small change can lead to a significant change in your business performance and the bottom line.
You may think it’s too late to make a New Year’s resolution, but it’s the perfect time to begin your business evolution. What are you waiting for?
